PROJECT DETAILS: This massive project is one of Walmart’s largest distribution centers. Construction began in 2017 and the facility opened for business in August 2018. Building on the success of RCC pavements Morgan Corp. built the prior year for Walmart’s distribution center in Mebane, NC, the owner elected to continue using RCC. For this project, Morgan Corp. mixed and placed approximately 106,000 cubic yards of Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) pavements. The pavements encompassed 372,000 square yards of 10-inch RCC for access route and parking plus 9,000 square yards of 5-inch RCC for employee access road. Tractor trailer parking areas and drive isles were paved 30 to 32 feet wide. Crack control joints were sawed transversely at 15 foot spacing and along the center of each paving lane using early entry saws. The joints were later widened and sealed with silicone sealant.
