PROJECT: 45th Street Reconstruction, Bel Aire, Kansas
OWNER: City of Bel Aire, Kansas
DESIGNER: Andale Construction, Inc.
PAVING CONTRACTOR: Andale Construction, Inc.
GENERAL CONTRACTOR: Andale Construction, Inc.
COMPLETION DATE: October 2012
PROJECT DETAILS: Andale Construction Inc. performed this arterial roadway reconstruction project as a design build alternative for the City of Bel Aire, Kansas in 2012. The existing asphalt failed and was severely rutted, cracked, and potholed. The solution to the problem was Cement stabilization using dust free SuperSlurry Cement and 7” of RCC. The roadway was milled 3″ in order to accommodate elevations of adjacent roadways and driveways. The remaining asphalt was ground into the base and mixed 12” deep with Super Slurry cement. After three days of curing, Andale placed 14,000 square yards of 7” RCC with the ACEiT additive in a day. The ACEiT additive allows the RCC to be power troweled and broom finished providing a surface texture that matches the aesthetics of conventional concrete paving. From the start of reclaiming to opening to traffic, the total project was completed in only 14 days. The City of Bel Aire complimented both the speed of construction and the durability of the final product. Based on the pavement design, the roadway should provide the customer a service life of 50+ years.
This project was awarded the Gold Award in 2014 by the American Concrete Paving Association.
