The Sustainable Beef Meat Packing Plant in North Platte, Nebraska, highlights the growing use of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) in the beef industry. This project involved paving a 1-million-square-foot parking lot for a new meatpacking plant, showcasing RCC’s durability and efficiency in commercial applications.

RCC, a concrete product with lower water content, was chosen for its strength and cost-effectiveness. It requires no rebar or forms and is compacted using vibrating rollers and high-density paving machines. The result is a surface as durable as conventional concrete, with a minimum strength of 4000 PSI that increases to well beyond 5000 PSI.

The project reflects the versatility of RCC, which is also being used in feedlots, roads, and other agricultural applications. Its benefits include rapid construction, reduced maintenance, and improved cleanliness, making it an ideal choice for the beef industry.  The use of Roller Compacted Concrete as the pavement choice for this project sped the completion date up by an estimated three months.
