At the Port of Gulfport, Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) was selected to deliver the heavy-duty strength and construction speed needed to bring West Pier Terminal 4, Phase 1 online fast — all while working through a full site rebuild and an active military presence on the property.

The project features 47,720 square yards of 18-inch RCC over 47,720 square yards of 8-inch base, engineered to withstand the massive, concentrated loads typical of port and terminal operations. But the paving section was only part of the story. The scope also required full excavation of the existing site, installation of new electrical ductbanks, RCP drainage extensions, and ten large medium-voltage manholes — all coordinated ahead of and around the RCC paving operation. A water line was also installed to serve in-ground fire hydrants, and a slot drain design was incorporated to manage sheet flow drainage across the terminal surface.

Midway through construction, the site hosted a military exercise — and the project team kept the work moving with zero downtime to port operations, a testament to the flexibility RCC and the project team offered on a live, active port site. From mobilization to completion, the entire project was executed in just five months, wrapping up in September 2026 — an aggressive timeline made possible by RCC’s rapid, formless paving process.
