Project Summary

The Columbus Police Impound Lot project presented a unique challenge: coordinating the relocation of 3,700 impounded vehicles multiple times across 13 quadrants to allow for excavation, grading, and paving in each area. Despite the logistical complexity, the project was completed successfully while maintaining the functionality of the active impound lot.

The City of Columbus opted for RCC pavement due to its proven durability, having achieved great success with similar projects in the past. The contract required the excavation, grading, and paving of 33 acres with 10-inch RCC, all within a tight one-year timeline. Paving operations began on July 15, 2024, and were completed by October 23, 2024, with over 44,000 cubic yards of RCC placed.

The project relied on the Vogele 2100 paving machine and the Rapidmix 600 mixing plant to ensure efficiency and quality. The result is a durable, long-lasting pavement that meets the City of Columbus’s high standards for performance and reliability.
